A man who allegedly robbed a passerby using a toy gun has been arrested by Pretoria West police.
Three suspects allegedly robbed a man of his cellphone in Elandspoort on Wednesday, said Pretoria West police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.
She said the police managed to apprehend a 20-year-old man, who had fled into a house in the same street, while the two others disappeared in a nearby field.
“The suspect had hidden himself in the garage of one of the houses and he didn’t even know anyone in it,” she said.
Vuma said the police searched the house until the suspect was found.
“He confessed to have had a toy gun,” she said.
She said during the search the “firearm” was found hidden under a carpet.
Vuma said the man was immediately arrested and detained at Pretoria West station for an armed robbery.
He will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
“The police will do a serious follow-up on the two suspects who escaped,” she said.
