Four people were caught with drugs and a gold bar worth more than R100 000 in Eersterust on Tuesday night.
Members of the Eersterust crime prevention team were busy with patrols in Highlandspark when they noticed a suspicious blue Volkswagen Polo parked in Ballakistan Avenue, said police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo.
The police proceeded to the vehicle and asked the occupants permission to search them.

Shibambo said the driver was searched and eight packets of drugs found in his pockets and “R50 000 in cash was found in a plastic bag stashed in the driver seat compartment”.
“In the spare wheel compartment, 3 371 packets of drugs were also found,” he said adding that a gold bar estimated to be worth more than R100 0000 was also found .
Shibambo said the total cash found in the car amounted to R71 750 and the drugs were estimated to have a street value of R101 130.
The suspects were arrested and detained at Eersterust SAPS pending their appearance in court, he said.
Meanwhile, the suspects’ vehicle was also taken in for enquiry to establish if it has not been stolen.
The Eersterust station commander Lieutenant Colonel Maesela John Kgoetego commended the members for a job well done and urged other members to emulate the excellent and diligent job that was done by the crime prevention team.
