A form of Gate-related crime is now causing a headache for police in the north of Pretoria.
“Theft of gate motors is a problem,” spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said.
He added that theft of motor vehicles was also concern.
“We are experiencing an increase in theft of motor vehicles in our policing area,” van Dyk said.

Although vehicle-related crime was also causing a headache for police in his policing precinct, the pointers he offered to combat gate motor theft were:
1. Owners should cleat write their names where they were visible or inscribe it on the metal parts so it was easy to identify
2. Place a clamp over the gate motor to prevent it from being stolen.
Van Dyk said “community driven” police station would continue to work hard to ensure the safety of residents.

Pretoria North police spokesperson Captain Rebecca Phatlane meanwhile warned community members about smash and grabs at the corner of Lavender Road and Paul Kruger Street.
“We have received several cases from both drivers, passengers and pedestrians,” she explained.
Phatlane urged all who use the intersection to exercise caution.
