The SAPS has warned motorists to beware sharp objects placed on the N14 between Pretoria and Johannesburg when driving at night.
East resident Anne-Lize Lourens said she drove over “sharp objects placed on the road” that punctured her tyre, forcing her to drive into the nearest petrol station in Jean Avenue.
“I was blessed to have been able to drive and make it to the station. I was told mine was apparently one of numerous cases in recent weeks on that road.”

Lourens was also a victim of a harrowing attempted hijacking in the east of Pretoria last year.
Motorist Ryan Lambert said he also drove over some sharp object that punctured his tyre too but was able to drive off on his drive-flats.
“It’s unacceptable and I am sure some people won’t get off as lightly as we possibly did,” said Lambert.
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said they were not aware of the incidents but warned motorists to be vigilant and to keep a spare wheel, jack and torch in the car.

“If you get a puncture on a freeway and feel unsafe to stop, if possible drive on but if you can’t, call the police or emergency services immediately then let a family member know where you are.
“If you do have to stop, stop in a well-lit area,” he said.
“It’s also important to be aware there are roadworks going on in many areas so there could be debris lying around and unfortunately punctures are a part of our lives as road users.”
Miller encouraged motorists to report such incidents to the SAPS so police could be aware of the modus operandi and increase patrols in the area.
In March, a motorist was robbed on the N4 after they were forced to stop to attend to a tyre punctured by sharp objects placed on the road.
The robbery prompted the SAPS to increase visibility in the area.
