UPDATE: North ‘panga’ assault accused man arrested

Additional assault, intimidation and theft charges have been opened against the embattled man.

Panga assault accused Wesley Roux was on Tuesday arrested at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on new charges of assault, theft and intimidation.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the 28-year-old Roux was arrested before court proceedings started on Tuesday for the latest charges against him.

Roux was initially expected to appear in court on the day for an incident in which he allegedly assaulted a man with a panga earlier this year.

Van Dyk said with the new charges against Roux came after he allegedly punched workers at a restaurant when they reportedly tried to stop him from stealing a chicken.

To add to his woes, van Dyk said Roux was apparently again involved later the same day in another assault at a Tops@Spar bottle store.

Spar group legal adviser Gordon Pentecost said video footage of the incident has been handed to the police.
