A man was shot and killed outside the offices of the local taxi association in Kruger Avenue, Lyttelton on Wednesday afternoon.
“The man was leaving the offices when he was shot by two unknown men,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
“The two fled the scene in a Dodge SUV. The man was declared dead at the scene.
Gauteng police are investigating the possibility that the recent murders in Lyttelton are linked to taxi violence.
Similar killings have taken place in other parts of the province, according to the police.

“The shooting might be related to ongoing taxi violence in the area as two more shootings were reported in the same area in the past two months.”
Earlier this month, an unknown man shot and killed a 44-year-old man in his car on the corner of Jean Avenue and Rabie Street.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the victim was associated with the taxi industry.

No arrest has been made.
Meanwhile in Kempton Park, two taxi association patrol vehicles were shot at on Wednesday.
“It is alleged that the vehicle was driving in the area at approximately 18:30 when the driver was shot and killed,” said Masondo.
Minutes later another patrol vehicle was attacked not far from the scene of the first shooting.
“The Gauteng [police] taxi violence unit is following up on the cases and searching for the shooters,” said Masondo.
He appealed to anyone with more information to contact the nearest police station or report anonymously to crime stop on 08600-10111.
