Rietgat police are concerned about the alarming rate of serious assault cases in Soshanguve.
Police in the area said there was a high level of intolerance among residents.
“As the station, we are concerned about the level of intolerance among the society within which we co-exist as the human race,” said spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

“Rietgat police would like to call on the entire community, young and old, to think of the consequences of assaulting each other before acting or reacting towards each other, either drunk or sober,” he said.
Maluleka said perpetrators could face a jail sentence of about three or more years if found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“It is advisable and prudent to avoid such a jail term and just walk away. It is also part of our duty as a station to encourage nation building, peace and stability within communities that we operate in.”
He also encouraged the community to protect state property, such as schools and offices from criminals.
“School burglaries have also become commonplace in our community, and as the police we discourage it in all its forms. If anyone is selling a computer, tablet and equipment alleged to be from schools blow the whistle and have the suspect arrested and refrain from buying stolen goods in general,” Maluleka said.
