Three people were arrested after a dramatic high-speed chase through the streets of the Moot on Tuesday.
The men, aged between 23 and 25, were arrested after they were spotted at a known hot spot for smash-and-grabs and hijackings, said Pretoria Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.
“Whilst on patrol, two of our police officers received information about the suspects wanting to break into vehicles on the corner of Malan Street and Steve Biko Road,” he said.
Breedt said the officers were in the vicinity of the scene.

“As they approached, they saw a silver Honda with three occupants fleeing the scene,” he said.
“The suspects fled into the hospital grounds in an attempt to hide away.”
After a few minutes, the police officers were able to identify the suspects’ vehicle in a parking bay at the hospital, Breedt said.
“The suspects once again fled the scene, driving in a reckless manner and disobeying traffic signs,” he said.
The officers pursued the vehicle.

“They made their way into Malherbe Street and in an attempt to stop the vehicle, one of the officers shot out the back tyres of the Honda,” he said.
Breedt said the vehicle came to a stop on the corner of Third Avenue and Malherbe Street, Capital Park.
He said three men were taken out of the vehicle and arrested.
“After searching the vehicle, police found a firearm and several types of equipment commonly used to steal or break into cars,” he said.
The three men will be appearing at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and breaking equipment.

Station commander Colonel Hlongeni Giben Mashaba praised the officers.
“We are certain these suspects could be linked to more cases,” he said.
