Centurion SPCA going strong after 109 years
“Stray animals can be brought to the SPCA at any time of the day including after hours.”
From its humble beginnings with a man on a bicycle patrolling the streets for stray dogs to the full veterinary services it provides today, the SPCA continues to speak for those who cannot.
The Tshwane SPCA, which consists of the Centurion and Waltloo branches, was founded 109 years ago.
The Centurion branch offers boarding, pet products, cruelty investigations, adoption as well as outreach programmes.
The facility is open 24 hours a day to receive stray and unwanted animals.

Dedicated staff work tirelessly to better the lives of animals in distress.
“Stray animals can be brought to the SPCA at any time of the day including after hours,” said Centurion SPCA inspector Diale Ratsela.
“The animal is kept for the seven-day pound period to allow the owner an opportunity to claim the animal.”
“Then after the animal is put up for adoption if not claimed.”
Centurion SPCA welcomes all donations including blankets and pet food.
“The pet food brand does not have to be specific as long it is a certified brand safe for animal consumption,” said Ratsela.
The public can also volunteer their services to the local SPCA.
“All persons offering volunteer services are required to sign an indemnity form,” said Ratsela.

“Persons under the age of 16 years will require a parent or guardian to sign on their behalf and operate under supervision.
“It is a requirement that all volunteers be vaccinated against tetanus prior to commencing with volunteer work.”
From the beginning of July the Centurion SPCA will also provide veterinary services to the public Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during working hours.
“Limited services will be offered on Saturdays. For enquiries the public can contact us on 012-664-5644.”
