North family in sorrow as missing dad found in dam
The decomposed body of Lerato’s father was found floating in a dam in Mabopane after he went missing for over a month.
Members of a Mabopane family were left speechless after the body of their missing father Patrick Mnisi was discovered floating in a dam.
Mnisi (73) was reported missing by his daughter Lerato Ngwai after he left home around 09:00 on 10 May without saying goodbye.
Ngwai previously told Rekord that the family, together with residents began searching for him.
She said the search spread to his former home in Ga-Rankuwa and neighbours were asked to be on the lookout.
“We started searching nearby places and giving people his picture so that if anyone saw him they could contact me. Three weeks later, I opened a case of a missing person at Terminus police station,” Ngwai said at the time.
She said the Ga-Rankuwa police contacted the family to inform them about Mnisi’s body on 1 August 2019.

“After he was found, the body was kept by the forensic department in Ga-Rankuwa. On 1 August, they called my uncle to come and identify him. That is when we went as a family and unfortunately, it was my father,” said Ngwai.
She said Mnisi’s decomposed body was found by a local collecting used material for recycling on 17 July 2019.
“The lady was busy collecting material for recycling. We were told that she was alarmed by the smell coming from the dam. When she started to inspect the dam, she discovered my father and immediately called the police,” said Ngwai.

She said the family has not yet found out what the cause of death was.
“Currently, we do not have the cause of the death but the police said they found him wearing his trousers only. We have left everything in the hands of the police. The investigating officer will update us after the post mortem results,” said Ngwai.
Ngwai said she was grateful to everyone for their assistance after her father disappeared.

“The community has been very helpful because sometimes they called me when they saw someone who matched his description. The investigation officer also did his job,” she said.
“Staff at the forensic department in Ga-Rankuwa promised to call me should they see someone who matched his description and they did. I appreciate their service,” said Ngwai.
