‘Brave’ Centurion mother gives birth on roadside
The DJ stopped to assist the woman as she gave birth on the side of the road.
A Centurion mother has been praised for her resolve during child birth on the roadside on the eve of Women’s Day.
The mother, who had been on her way to the hospital with her husband, gave birth with the help of a Jacaranda FM DJ last Thursday evening.
“I had been making my way to an event at around 22:10,” said DJ Jazzy D.
“On the corner of Wierda Road and the R55, I noticed a vehicle parked beside the road and saw two men running around it.”
“Suspecting something might be wrong I stopped and rolled down my window, a man shouted, ‘My wife is having a baby’.”

As he exited his car, Jazzy D said he heard the baby cry.
“The mother was on a blanket on the floor and another blanket had been used to cover her,” he said.
“I asked the father if I could have a look and when I lifted the blanket I saw the head of the baby was already out.
“We must have been in an area with very bad reception as I couldn’t make any calls.”
Thinking quickly, the DJ sat beside the mother and started comforting her, helping her through the birthing process.
“I just reassured her but she was so strong,” he said.
“I kept telling her how wonderful her life would be once the baby was here and around three minutes later it was done. The baby was completely out.
“I didn’t want to cut the umbilical cord but the mother soon detached it herself.
“She showed no sign of weakness. She was like a lioness on a mountain.”

Jazzy D helped the mother back into the car and the brand new parents were able to make their way to Kalafong hospital.
“It was such an amazing experience and blessing to have witnessed such a strong woman going through this very natural process.
“Plus it was two days before my own birthday. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present.”
