VIDEO: Fine dropped after speedster’s aid to accident victim
Speeding motorist let off the hook after assisting with highway accident.
Being a Good Samaritan saved a man from a speeding ticket yesterday after he assisted a woman who had just been in an accident.
Marius Jacobs from the Watchdog Canine Security and his brother-in-law was driving along the N1 past Hammanskraal at around 07.15 when he was pulled over for speeding by a metro police officer.
“We stopped and I greeted the officer friendly, and admitted that I was driving a bit fast. He took my licence and started writing the fine,” Jacobs said.

The next moment, Jacobs heard a car slamming brakes and saw a vehicle overturning on the highway.
“I immediately asked the officer if he could release us to go and assist with the accident and he agreed.”
Jacobs said he and his brother-in-law took their medical aid bag and rushed to the overturned car, on the way contacting ER24 for assistance.

“The driver was badly injured. She had visible and serious head injuries. We assisted her by stopping the blood and keeping her calm until all emergency services arrived.”
Afterwards, Jacobs and his brother-in-law returned to their vehicle and asked the metro officer to finish writing the ticket as they were on their way to Johannesburg.
“You are angels sent from God today; no fine today,” the metro officer greeted Jacobs.
