Young Mabopane DJ lives his dream

“The more I host events, the more I met with people that gave me ideas and introduced me to influential people. I did not know that I was going to have so many events.”

A young and talented Mabopane DJ is unstoppable having already shared the stage with local big names such as DJ Fresh, Black Coffee and DJ Christos.

Andrew Majabe AKA DJ Shizo popularly known for his monthly events that attract large crowds from all over Tshwane who come to his home to have a good time.

“My events became successful as people came in numbers… people who came made it a success and I appreciate them because that is when I realised that people love me and what I do,” he said.

His events feature DJs of various genres.

DJ Shizo said the idea was inspired by seeing similar events on TV.

“When I started I wanted my events to be like those popular events we see on TV, where the hosts would block the roads with stages and have fun.

“Every December we used to go out to other places to have fun but I also wanted to host events,” said DJ Shizo.

The 25-year-old told Record that his interest in music began when he was only 10 years old.

He told Record that he does not believe in failure and that hardworking individuals inspired him.

“I am also a hard worker so it will be bad for me if I associate myself with people that do not work hard. My friend Kagiso Mogatle is the one who helped with marketing myself,” he said.

DJ Shizo is a firm believer in fate as he said he never thought he could end up as a DJ or in the music industry.

“I did not want to be a DJ. I wanted something else but God is in control of our lives and he knows what is going to happen in the future. He chose this for me,” he said.

“The more I hosted events, the more people gave me ideas and introduced me to influential people. I did not know that I was going to have so many events.”

DJ Shizo said his effort and passion for what he does will ensure that he remains relevant to his audience.

“As a DJ, you have to be different because if you play as a DJ and you are using the same technique as other DJs, then you are not unique,” he said.

“You have to come up with your own style of deejaying. Music is in me.”

He does not only focus on deejaying, but is also involved in graphic design where he designs posters.

The man of many talents told Record that in future, he sees himself bringing change in politics.

“When I see myself in the next five years, I see myself as the mayor of Tshwane. I am politically active.

“I want Mabopane to be on another level as I see that our municipality is failing our people in terms of service delivery,” he concluded.
