UPDATE: Ten arrested for public violence in Centurion
“During the protest the drivers attacked one of our officers.”
A group of taxi drivers who blockaded Botha Avenue in Centurion on Monday afternoon attacked a police officer before they were dispersed with teargas and rubber bullets.
By 15:15 on Monday afternoon at least ten protesters had been arrested, according to Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.
“The group had blockaded Botha Avenue in the Kloofsig area,” Miller said.
“During the protest the drivers attacked one of our officers.”
“Station commander Brigadier TP Matlala addressed the crowd who later became rowdy and disruptive towards police.”
Miller said the protesters were dispersed, but the road was still closed on Monday afternoon.
“However, we are clearing the area which should take about an hour and a half,” he said.
“Police will remain in the area and are currently investigating a case of public violence.”
