Counterfeit goods estimated to be worth R3.8-million seized

The operations held by police will see 11 undocumented persons undergo a verification of their status in the country.

The police confiscated a consignment of counterfeit goods estimated at R3.8-million in Marabastad and Pretoria West on Wednesday as part of operation O Kae Molao.

Spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said among the confiscated goods were replicas of brand clothing, shoes, beauty products, cosmetics, and illicit cigarettes.

Peters said the operation, which ran across the entire Tshwane, also arrested seven people for illegal possession of firearms.

She said the firearms would be subjected to ballistic testing to establish links to reported crimes.

Peters said in Tshwane, the police were also able to forensically link three of the arrested to at least nine cases of trio crimes – hijacking, business and house robberies.

“Two more people were arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables with an estimated value of about R35 000; three for possession of dagga and one for dealing in dagga.

“Seven liquor outlets were closed down and fines issued for non-compliance.”

She said the operations gave the police an opportunity to issue Aarto fines amounting to R30 900.

“Detective raids tracing suspects wanted for various serious and violent crimes including rape, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and hijacking were conducted in Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Sedibeng and West Rand districts and yielded 145, 151, 149, 62 and 29 arrests respectively,” she said.
