Caring north man breaks stereotypes
Soshanguve organisation, Caring for Young Girl, raised more than 1000 sanitary towels that will be donated to 10 high schools.
The plight of school girls missing lessons due to inadequate personal care products, has moved a Soshanguve resident to action.
Mannda Munyai formed Caring for Young Girls organisation in 2017 and started collecting sanitary towels in large quantities to assist underprivileged girls in the community.
Last Saturday, more than 1 000 sanitary pads were donated to various high schools in Soshanguve.
Munyai told Rekord that he started the initiative after he was moved by an article in a magazine which highlighted the plight of girls who missed school because of lack of sanitary towels.
“I spoke to my twin sister after I saw the article. She explained how disadvantaged girls suffered while they were on their periods and how they missed school due to lack of sanitary towels,” said Munyai.
He said he saw it fit to establish the organisation and prove that not all men were trash and that there were still men who cared about women.
“Our plan is to expand the organisation not only to focus on sanitary towels but also donate clothes to the needy, and food also to make a difference,” said Munyai.
Caring for Girls chairperson Sam Shomolekae said the organisation was committed to making a difference in the lives of young girls who could not afford personal care products.

“We want to amplify our organization not only in our local communities but also in other provinces. Our organisation will not stop donating sanitary towels until the government gives out sanitary towels for free as it does with free condoms,” said Shomolekae.
Pastor Simon Mailula said: “To donate one pack of sanitary towels makes a huge difference in someone’s life. I got inspired by the fact that the organisation was not started by girls but it was started by a man, which indicates that it is not only girls who are affected but also men as well. There are men who still care for young women.”
