A Centurion home was gutted by a fire on Saturday afternoon in yet another incident involving a veld fire.
The fire also incinerated hectares of grasslands in the area.
The home in Doornrandjies could not be saved, according to Tshwane emergency services spokesperson, Charles Mabaso.
“Emergency services responded to a veld fire and house fire in Bodley and Gemstone Road, respectively,” Mabaso said.
“On arrival the double-storey house had already burned down completely.”

Mabaso said the area had been experiencing veld fires throughout the day.
“The veld fire contributed to the home burning down at around 13:00,” he said.
Two weeks ago a home in nearby Gerhardsville was completely destroyed, also by a veld fire.
Although no one was injured, the fire completely destroyed the home and all the family’s possessions.
Mabaso called on the residents in the area to call emergency services toll free on 107 as soon as a veld fire starts.
“Efforts by the community to extinguish the veld fires are appreciated but the emergency services department should be notified first,” he said.
“Residents are advised against leaving open fires unattended.”
“They should make sure that braai and camp fires are completely extinguished.”
“Motorists and other smokers should avoid throwing away cigarettes butts where there is a risk that they could cause a fire.”
