Centurion residents waiting over a year for metro claim

A resident of Clubview is at wits end as he has been struggling to get his claim for damage caused by a power surge processed by the Tshwane metro since March 2018.

Mario du Piesanie told Rekord he submitted all documents and even received a reference number.

“The power surge at my home was so bad we couldn’t even touch the taps without getting shocked,” he said.

“At the request of the metro, I submitted documents from my insurance and a claim form to the metro last year.”

“I don’t understand why this is taking so long.”

However, the metro is adamant it will process any claims residents have as long as the necessary proof is provided.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said residents were able to claim for any damages brought on by power surges.

“All claims of this nature, known as delictual claims, may be submitted directly to the metro,” Mashigo said.

Residents were urged to take the following steps when submitting a claim:

– Request the necessary claim form from the metro by contacting 012-358-5950;
– Complete the form;
– Submit the claim, with supporting documents, to claims@tswhane.gov.za; and
– Claims can also be hand-delivered to the legal department at Tshwane House.

“All claims submitted are assessed in terms of the applicable legal principles and can either be settled or repudiated.”
