NEWSFLASH: Construction worker loses leg in cement mixer accident

The man had to be airlifted to hospital.

A construction worker’s left leg was amputated after a cement mixer he was reportedly busy cleaning was accidently turned on.

The accident happened at around 13:00 on Friday at a factory in Bon Accord, according to Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst.

“Reports from the scene indicated the worker, believed to be in his 30s, was in the process of cleaning the cement mixer when it was turned on.”

“He sustained serious injuries to his left leg.”

Herbst said advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise the man.

“Due to the nature of his injures, a Netcare911 helicopter was activated to take him to a nearby hospital.”
