West police step up ahead of festive season

Six small bags of dagga were seized from a house in Lotus Gardens following a tip off.

Police in the west of Pretoria have launched a full-scale intelligence operation to fight crime ahead of the festive season.

During the operation’s initial stages, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Lotus Gardens on Thursday for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The investigation to determine whether the gun was previously used to commit a crime was ongoing, said Hercules police station spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.

The O kae Molao operation was carried out by the Tshwane district police.

In another case, six small zip lock bags of dagga were seized from a house in Lotus Gardens following a tip off.

“The suspect was not found; however, his room was searched and dagga was found and seized,” Msimango said.

The value of the seizure had yet to be disclosed at the time of print, but Tshwane district police commissioner Major-General Daniel Mthombeni issued a stern warning to criminals.

Mthombeni said that one unlicensed firearm recovered was too many.

“Intelligence-driven operations are now focused on ensuring that the community of Gauteng, in particular, Tshwane, are safe and feel safe during this approaching festive season,” he said.
