Serious service delivery needed in Sinoville

One of the biggest issues in the area is the faulty street lights.

Some areas in the north of Pretoria are in urgent need of service delivery, a local ward councillor believes.

Ward 50 councillor Lenise Breytenbach said “serious service delivery” was needed in her area, which includes Annlin, Sinoville and Wonderboom.

“One of the biggest issues in the area is the faulty street lights.”

The streetlights in dire need of attention in ward 50 were identified in Albrecht South of Braam Pretorius Street, Alwyn, Anna, Braam Pretorius, Elizabeth, Ficus, Gwarriebos, Luce, Majoram streets, Marija from Braam Pretorius Street to Majoram Street, Ongers Street, Parsley at the Park, Pickard Street, Sefako Makgatho Drive, Steenbras and Van der Schyff streets.

Breytenbach said other service delivery problems in her ward included the long uncut grass at parks in her area.

“Ongoing grass maintenance is needed at Anna and Pichard streets, Ongers park, Parsley park, Sinoville soccer field, Sinoville cricket club, Sinoville trimpark, the tennis club across from the Wonderboom primary and in Von Maltitz Street.

“Sinoville trim park – Vinko is looking terrible,” Breytenbach said.

Another issue in Breytenbach’s area are roads with pothole damage, and unmarked roads and paving.

Dr Van der Merwe, Haveman, Ray, Ruspolia, Rooibos streets and Sefako Makgatho Drive are the roads where potholes need to be fixed.

At Stephanus Roos Primary, Wonderboom Primary, Northridge Primary and Overkruin High various problems such as potholes, damaged roads, parking spaces not painted and uncut grass and grass growing on pavements were identified.

Breytenbach has also said the various illegal squatters in the area needs action.

“There are illegal squatters at Moonflowers post office. All my parks have squatters,” Breytenbach said.

The other problem areas where illegal squatters lived in ward 50, include Majoram, at the corner next to the roadhouse and at Majoram, next to new development. There are also illegal squatters at the Sinoville soccer field.

At the beginning of 2020, Breytenbach said she would focus on the safety and clean-up of her ward, in particular:

– All sticker spots are cleaned up
– Ensuring that the grass at parks is regularly mowed and maintained
– Regular inspections to repair fences
– Repair street lights faster and more frequently
– Water and electricity will be preferred
– Repair potholes
– To make the municipal pool more user-friendly
– Re-open Sinoville library
– Pruning trees frequently and placing more and larger trash cans at bus stops

“It has become a necessity to get security and metro involved in the Wonderboom reservoir. Too many criminal activities take place that threaten the safety of the community,” she said.

“In short, we will focus on the safety and service delivery of our neighbourhoods. But again, I would like to invite every resident. Please become involved. All help is welcome. The more residents get involved, the faster and easier it will be to keep our neighbourhoods safer and cleaner.”
