North family issues challenge for a ‘home holiday’

The Van Graans challenges the community to have a home holiday for at least one night between now and the end of April when the lockdown is expected to be end.

With about two weeks left of the current national lockdown, a family from the north of Pretoria has challenged the community to host a “home holiday” and donate to charity.

The Van Graan family from Theresa Park in the north of Pretoria recently set up their “home holiday” with a caravan and is challenging the community to stay at home and have a home holiday.

“We are challenging all citizens to go camping’ in your own yard,” Theo and Jenny van Graan said.

The family challenged the community to do this at least for one night, between now and the end of April, when the lockdown is expected to end.

The family told Rekord the idea came about when they spoke to their son, Clifford, who currently resides in the UK.

“He suggested we challenge the whole of SA, so this is merely the start. The challenge is on.

“Camp in your caravan, tent, gazebo or in your garage,” they said.

“We challenge every family to donate R100 to their charity of choice for every night they camp outside.”

The Van Graans suggested supporting a local charity such as the Wollies Animal Shelter or the Covid-19 solidarity fund.

“Do what you would normally do at a camping site in your own yard, sleep out, eat outside and spend time with the family.”

They said however the challenge was to stay inside your yard and still practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Let’s see who’s game. We have already done this and our home camping experience was something to write home about,” the family said, urging participants to post photos of their “home holiday” on social media and to spread the word.
