North woman empowers women in her community
“I started this platform so that women can find closure to forgive the past.”
A Soshanguve woman aims to empower women and encourage youth development.
Vanessa Mokhethi (27) said she started by posting motivational messages to her social media platforms.
“People showed interest in what I wrote and started inboxing me, inquiring if I had considered writing a book and expressing how inspired they were by my posts.”
She said feedback from her posts inspired her to start Women and Youth Empowerment.
“I started hosting sessions in 2015 by building a relationship with authors, professional speakers, psychologists and life coaches I would invite to speak at the events I hosted,” said Mokhethi.
She said most women in South Africa needed to heal first from what happened in their past.
“I realised that most women have things bottled up they needed to talk about for closure.
“I started this platform so that women can find closure to forgive the past,” she said.
“I wanted women from all walks of life to gather quarterly and be inspired to live their best lives and be the best version of themselves and believe in themselves.”
She said her women empowerment sessions normally consist of an intimate group of women where thoughts and questions are shared.
“Hosting these sessions brings me joy, seeing all the women coming together, setting goals, being inspired and giving out solutions and advice gives me peace,” she said.
“Although it does come with some challenges such as not getting sponsors to keep my events alive, I do not make any profit from my sessions even though some are paid sessions.”
She said despite this, she always made sure that all her events happen.
“I am inspired by women who do extraordinary things for themselves, the kind that gets and make things happen and do not depend on anyone to do things for them,” she said.
“I believe in the power of forgiveness, From the past sessions I have realised that women have a lot to make peace with and the first step is by forgiving everything,” said Mokhethi.
