Pretoria dam levels remain above the 100% mark this week
The government is asking everyone to wash their hands frequently with water and soap to minimise the spread of the virus.
There is some stability in the Gauteng provincial water storage, as dam levels stand at a 100.5% mark.
The Department of Water and Sanitation said the increased dam levels are expected to boost the government’s campaign for water availability in its fight against the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
“The government is asking everyone to wash their hands frequently with water and soap to minimise the spread of the virus.
“In the absence of any vaccine to cure the virus, water has become central to the government’s efforts to fight the pandemic,” the department said.
It added that despite the improvement and stability, water conservation efforts need to be a priority. The department encourages water users to make saving the precious resource a part of their culture.
Currently, the Bon Accord Dam is at 105.4%, slightly down from last week’s 109.9%. During the same period last year, the dam stood at 109.0%.
The Reitvlei Dam this week recorded a slight decline, falling to 99.5% compared to last week when the dam was at 100.0%.
The Roodeplaat Dam shows a minor decrease from 101.3% to last week’s 100.5%.
Bronkhorstspruit Dam shows a slight decline but the dam remains above the 100% mark. This week the dam stands at 100.2% following a decline from last week’s 100.5%.
