Golf courses given green light to re-open
"I have learnt to appreciate to better appreciate what we have taken for granted in the past."
On Friday, the South African golfing community were thrilled after the government gave the green light for golf courses around the country to reopen. Over the weekend, about 260 golfers took to the course for the first time since the lockdown started at Woodhill country club.
“I always say that you don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it,” Gauteng North golfer Michael Ferreira (15) told Rekord.
The teenager is also a member of the club.
“When the lockdown was announced and we heard we were not allowed to play any golf for three weeks, it was so unreal. It felt as if my life was suddenly going to stop. Of course, it was even worse when those three weeks became almost three months,” said.
“I have learnt to appreciate what we have taken for granted in the past. When I struck again for the first on Sunday, it was as if my life just made sense again. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to be able to play golf again.”
“I cannot wait for the provincial and national tournaments to start again. Thanks to everyone who worked behind the scenes and is still working to make sure Woodhill looks so beautiful and safe for us to be back,” he said.
