UPDATE: Centurion murdered loyal worker mourned
“I knew it was him because I immediately recognised his clothes. It was exactly the same outfit he wore when I said goodbye to him on the night of his murder.”
A Centurion family is in shock after the body of their loyal worker, who was shot, was discovered by the side of Hendrik Verwoerd Road in Centurion last week.
“We suspected something was wrong when Idzai [Chivavava] did not show up for work on Friday,” Lourens Nolte told Rekord.
“Him not showing up for work was out of character.”
He described Chivavava as a kind man and loyal worker who has been with the family for about 10 years.
“He became part of our family,” said Nolte.

“Over the weekend, we were contacted by someone who said Chivavava was shot and killed on Thursday evening.”
Nolte went to the area where the incident occurred and met up with an eyewitness, who showed him a photo of the body.
“I knew it was him because I immediately recognised his clothes. It was exactly the same outfit he wore when I said goodbye to him on the night of his murder.”
Nolte said they were still in the dark about the circumstances of Chivavava’s murder.
Chivavava’s body was discovered by emergency services personnel near the Mall@Reds.
“Upon arrival, it was found that the person was fatally shot,” said Community Emergency Response Team (Cert-SA) spokesperson Ruan Heyns.
He was declared dead at the scene.
“We did not find any ID on the victim,” he said.

Although circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, Heyns said according to witnesses shots were fired at around 18:30.
Heyns thanked Monitor Net, Copwatch, the police and the metro’s emergency service department for their assistance at the scene.
Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane confirmed a murder docket was opened for investigation.
