Three pilots in a pot
“Mayday, mayday, mayday – payday. For sale or to hire, a second hand, slightly used pilot and plane in good working condition.”
It has been nearly four months since Pretoria’s favourite “orphaned” plane could lift off and spread her wings due to the current national lockdown regulations.
The Hill family from Pretoria east have been grounded but had to put their heads and pilots together to make ends meet during the national lockdown.
Mark Hill, Jon-Marc Hill and Ryan Smith swapped their overalls for aprons when they started making and processing droëwors and biltong to make ends meet.
It has been a busy lockdown for the Hill-clan, who not only had to find a new way of getting an income but also had to deal with relocating Little Annie.
“Due to Covid-19, my dad and the crew have started a new and exciting online series – 3 Pilots in a pot. The three pilots have already started making aviation-themed biltong and droëwors,” Courtney Hill said.

She said the show promises to be packed with ample humour, fun facts, aviation flavours and more.
“Mayday, mayday, mayday – payday. For sale or to hire, a second hand, slightly used pilot and plane in good working condition,” the Hills posted on Little Annie’s Facebook page at the beginning of July.
“He can clean hangers, wash aircrafts and even fly the aircraft both fixed and rotary wing.”
Hill said her father, Mark, was retrenched due to Covid-19, “which has affected us all in some way or another and has been back home for the past four months”.
Since the cry for help the Hills put their heads together and came up with the concept of making and selling biltong. The YouTube channel was only added later.

The Hills have also had their hands full with relocating their orphaned aircraft, Little Annie.
“I’m so excited to announce that I have moved to my new foster home! After having to move out of my old foster home due to various reasons, Ben Esterhuizen from AMO 1148 (208 Aviation), has kindly opened up his home to give me a safe and warm haven for the next while,” Little Annie said.
The Hills thanked Adventure Air, Lande Milne for looking after Little Annie during this difficult time.
“Thank you so much for all the unconditional support.”
Hill said they were still working on the first episode and will announce the release soon.
