Local dam levels show slight increase
“Despite the above-average dam levels, we urge consumers to be careful of their water use as the next rainfalls are only expected a few months from now”
Water levels in the Gauteng dams have showed a slight increase in storage capacity this week.
The Department of Water and Sanitation’s latest weekly report showed that the provincial storage capacity this week was at 99.5% from last week’s 99.4%.
“Despite the above-average dam levels, we urge consumers to be careful of their water use as the next rainfalls are only expected a few months from now,” the department’s spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, said.
The report revealed that most of the province’s water levels had remained stable amid the current dry winter season.
“This week, Bon Accord dam retained the 104.8% mark two weeks in a row,” Ratau said.
The Bronkhorstspruit dam, however, showed a slight drop from last week’s level of 97.7% to 97.4% this week.
“The dam stood at 85.2% in the same week last year,” he said.
The two dams, which maintained a 100% mark for two consecutive weeks, were Rietvlei and Roodeplaat.
