Former minister’s wife set to appear in court on Monday
The woman is facing charges of assault and damage to property.
A woman, believed to be the wife of a former finance minister, is set to appear at the Hatfield magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of assault and damage to property.
The woman was allegedly arrested after an arrest warrant was issued by police on Friday afternoon.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Malaudzi could not confirm the woman’s identity to Rekord.
The woman’s name is known to Rekord, but is withheld because she has not appeared in court.
Mulaudzi said she was arrested for “assault and damage to property and possibility of more charges to be added,” and was currently detained at the Brooklyn police station in the east of Pretoria.
Although matters of damage to property and assault are normally handled by SAPS and not the Hawks, Mulaudzi said the case came to their department due to ongoing investigations concerning the current case.
“This is one part of the investigation which we are carrying out that will assist the intelligence department with our broader investigation. And we are working closely with SAPS,” he said.
Mulaudzi added that the case should not be taken lightly.
This after a video of a vandalised car, allegedly belonging to the former minister, was trending on social media platforms earlier this week.
