Illegal electricity connections cut in north informal settlement
“No one was arrested during the operation since the focus was mainly on disconnections.”
Authorities disconnected hundreds of illegal power connections at an informal settlement at Marikana, east of Soshanguve on Tuesday.
The disconnections were made during an operation by various police teams, Eskom and Red Ants.
“This law enforcement exercise sought to ensure safety for over 5 000 residents,” said police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

It also sought to curb the power overload caused by illegal connections on the municipality’s power grid, while also causing loss of millions of revenue.
Maluleka said no arrests were made during the operation because the focus was mainly on disconnections attached to municipal lamp posts and transformers.
