Suspected gate motor thief remanded in police custody

Andrew Scheepers (30) was arrested after CCTV footage reportedly showing him steal a gate motor was circulated on social media.

A suspected gate motor thief residing in the Moot was remanded in police custody to allow further investigation to continue after a brief appearance in the Pretoria magistrate’s court last week.

“He will appear in court later this week for his application for bail,” police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt told Rekord.

The bail application, however, was expected to be opposed.

Breedt said Andrew Scheepers was arrested after CCTV footage reportedly showing stealing a gate motor at an old age home in the Wonderboompoort area was circulated.

“After the footage was circulated on social media, detectives started their investigation to trace the suspect which led them to an address in the Wonderboompoort area where the suspect was hiding out,” he said.

The 30-year-old man was said to have been linked to several other cases of theft of motor gates in the Moot and Villieria neighbourhoods.

Pretoria Moot police station commander Colonel Hlengeni Giben Mashaba applauded the officers for making the arrest and appealed to the community to assist them in the fight against crime by continuing to be the eyes and years of the policing precinct.

“Together as one we stand, divided we fall,” Mashaba said.
