Band releases song on Heritage Day

A local band celebrated Heritage Day by releasing a brand new song meant to inspire after the six-month lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
December Streets launched their new single “Last forever” during a small and intimate launch in Hatfield last Thursday.
December Streets were formed and founded in Pretoria in late 2009.
Lead singer Tristan Coetzee said “Last forever” happened during lockdown when he went through a personal breakup and hardship specifically during the lockdown.
“I realised a lot of people around me were going through similar experiences where they lost friends or loved ones. ‘Last forever’ is about the nostalgia of something that is so good you wish it would last forever. But also realising all good things come to an end.
“Despite the lyrics initially being quite sad, the producer surprised with an upbeat feel-good song. I was like, did I write that?”

Coetzee said December Streets has been successful as a band by covering deep soulful lyrics with pop-like chanting music.
Vocalist Dane Steinhobel said one of the cool things about the band was that they were all very good friends.
“We love each other’s company. Most of the time we can really just joke and laugh with each other.
“I have had so many amazing band practice sessions with the band. It is always just smooth sailing with these chaps.”
Waldo Boshof, who plays the keyboard and trumpet on the day, said the band has changed members quite a few times.
“We have been from seven members down to three and currently six.”
The band’s newest member Matthew Tager said the interaction between the band members was what stood out for him the most during the past few years.
“The fact that we get to go onto the stage and have fun together, there is nothing more I want to do. I don’t want to be anywhere else in the world.”
