West writer releases first book to inspire others
“Motivating and inspiring others became something I really enjoyed, so, I decided to go to schools and companies to have a motivational session.”
A Lotus Gardens resident and motivational speaker in the west of Pretoria, has published his first book to inspire others to reach their full potential.
Activate Your Greatness hopes to educate matriculants to develop their greatest desire before choosing the career they would enjoy.
Author Tishen Gounder was born in Springs and later moved to Lotus Gardens where he completed primary and secondary school. He furthered his studies in information technology and later completed a bachelor’s degree in Christian leadership at the Destiny College International, Centurion.
“The environment I grew up in was not all sunshine and rain. There was a lot of peer pressure, a toxic environment in my view. Despite those circumstances, I believed that we are products of our decisions which our environment has a huge impact on,” he said.

“I got trained on the I CAN John Maxwell programme and Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” said Gounder.
“Motivating and inspiring others became something I really enjoyed, so, I decided to go to schools and companies to have a motivational session.”
Gounder said Dr Shandrey Thumbran and Reyhana Thumbran, and many other motivational speakers became his mentors throughout his career.
“I have a few mentors who have written books before me and that has helped and inspired me to write my book. It is always great to keep company with those you want to be like someday,” he said.
“Everything I am today is a result of people’s inputs in my life at different times,” Gounder said.

His 227-page book consists of short motivational stories, diagrams that break up the different stages of a person’s life, and also fun activities the reader can fill in on the challenges they face in life.
“I tried to make it as straightforward and simple as possible so everyone would understand. The hardest chapter to write was the purpose barriers chapter because every person has a different purpose in life,” he said.
“I see the book as a personal life planner for individuals.
“I believe all of us have greatness trapped inside of us. Many people don’t realise they have this greatness and others are unsure of how to activate their greatness. The sad part is that many people have all this greatness lying dormant or deactivated within them, while the world needs the solutions they were born to deliver,” he said.
Gounder said the book challenged individuals to think differently about themselves and the lives they could live.
“It provides them with tools and serves as a road map to discover their purpose and aims to activate greatness.
“As a writer, I use my unique gifts, talents, and abilities to focus on adding value to my readers,” he said.
