Alcohol worth thousands of rands confiscated
“Police found people partying like they know nothing about the disaster management act,” says police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.
Different brands of alcohol, to the value of R150 000, and a music sound system worth R100 000 were confiscated in Mamelodi recently.
Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the liquor and sound system were confiscated during Operation High Density which started on Friday evening and continued Saturday morning.
Maheso said the police stamped authority and reclaimed the streets of Tshwane by arresting 414 suspects over the weekend.
“The suspects were caught for various crimes as well as drunken driving,” said Maheso.

Operation High Density is a police operation in Tshwane precinct conducted by different police stations.
Maheso said during the operation at Osizweni butchery and Chisanyama in Mamelodi East, police found people partying like they know nothing about the disaster management act.
“Different brands of liquor were confiscated to the value of R15 000. The sound system and disco lights confiscated are estimated to be valued at R100 000,” he said.
The operation extended to the areas of Erecters.
“There was a stop-and-search at Kinsley hostel, Nkandla hostel and Tru hostel,” said Maheso.
In Mamelodi during the operation 810 people, 135 vehicles and 224 hostel rooms were searched. Seven people were arrested for possession of drugs. Eight liquor outlets were closed. Five R1 life ammunition were found abandoned, a toy gun, clothes and shoes were also found.
Police also made inroads into both Eersterust and Mamelodi closing several shebeens and liquor outlets for non-compliance to the law and arresting those contravening the disaster management act.

Major General Hilda Mohajane said the police in Mamelodi must sustain the spirit and momentum of the operation, which will help in reducing the number of gender-based violence around the district.
“We will continue to ensure our communities are and feel safe,” said Mohajane.
Suspects arrested will be appearing at different magisterial courts around Tshwane.
