Man sentenced to two life terms, 140 years imprisonment for rape

“He was facing seven counts of rape, seven counts of robbery and one count for attempted murder.”

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to two life imprisonment terms and a further 140 years, by the Moretele high court in Temba on Thursday.

Hendrick Phehle was convicted on seven counts of rape, seven of robbery and one count of attempted murder.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi said Phehle committed these crimes in between 2013 and 2017, around Kanana, Tamboville, Rockville, unit 5, and portion 9 near Hammanskraal.

Moremi said Phehle used a firearm to threaten the victims.

“The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Khosana who diligently managed to trace the suspect and arrested him on 7 March 2018, when he appeared in the Moretele magistrate’s court on another matter.

“He managed to link Phehle with all cases during the investigation.”

Station commander of Temba police Brigadier Martha Mokobori applauded the good work and dedication by the investigating officer “who made sure he removes the perpetrator from the streets and ensured that the victims get justice”.
