TMPD officer critical after being hit by a car on N1
The officer is believed to have been helping a broken down vehicle pull off the road when another one crashed into him.
A Tshwane metro police officer is in critical condition after being hit by a car on the N1 northbound after Lynnwood Road.
Emer-G-Med paramedic’s Rufus Engelbrecht said paramedics were called to the scene just after 07:00.
“On arrival, it was found that the officer had been assisting with a broken down vehicle on the highway to get it off the road,” Engelbrecht said.
“Another vehicle did not notice the incident, it and the metro police car collided, injuring the officer who was outside his vehicle.”
Engelbrecht said the officer sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a specialised facility for treatment.
The road has since been opened after it was closed for the medical helicopter to land.
