Centurion man gets 18 years for house robbery

The investigating officer Sergeant Sello Molekoa spent restless days and nights ensuring that the suspects were arrested and brought to book.

Wierdabrug police have welcomed the sentencing of Leonard Chauke, who was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for house robbery.

Chauke (31) was arrested in 2018 after he committed a house robbery in Wierdapark the previous year, said police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.

“During the robbery, two suspects attacked a domestic worker who was busy hanging clothes on the washing line outside the house. They threatened her with knives and forced her into the house before stealing items,” Huma said.

She said investigating officer Sergeant Sello Molekoa spent “restless days and nights” ensuring that the suspects were arrested and brought to book.

“He ensured that their bail was successfully opposed as both suspects did not give correct addresses.”

First suspect Patrick Sithole Madakweni pleaded guilty in 2019 and was given 15 years’ imprisonment.

Chauke was sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment with no option.

Wierdabrug station commander Colonel Sammuel Makama commended continuous quality investigation from Molekoa.
