SA Weather Service issue flood warning for Gauteng

With a high volume of traffic expected this weekend, the weather service urged motorists to be patient when driving through the rainy weather.

The SA Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Gauteng as rain is expected later over the weekend.

Forecaster Tokelo Chiloane said showers should be expected in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.

“There is a 30% chance of rain today with a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius. Tomorrow, we are looking at a 60% of thundershowers as temperatures drop slightly,” she said.

Chiloane said more rain was predicted for next week.

In a statement, the SA Weather Service issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, which could lead to localised flooding in informal settlements or low-lying areas and bridges.

Motorists were urged to be vigilant due to slippery roads.

“While these weather conditions will be welcomed by the agricultural sector, it could lead to difficult driving conditions, reduced visibility, pooling on the roads and slippery roads, which can contribute to an increased travel time.”

With a high volume of traffic expected this weekend, the weather service urged motorists to be patient when driving through rainy weather especially on the N3, N1 and N12.
