Elderly woman strangled to death in Laudium

The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s vehicle which was later recovered along Maunde Street in Atteridgeville.

Police have launched a manhunt after the murder of a 68-year-old woman in Laudium on Wednesday evening.

It is alleged that two men entered the house and held the occupants inside at gunpoint, said Laudium police spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe.

“The suspects then tied the victims up, demanded money and started searching the house,” he said.

The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s vehicle which was later recovered along Maunde Street in Atteridgeville.

Chokoe said no shots fired at the house but the preliminary report indicated that the elderly woman died after she was strangled by the suspects during the robbery.

Anyone with information to assists police in apprehending suspects to contact the nearest police station or contact crime Stop 086-00-10111 or SMS the Crime Line at 32211.

A case of house robbery and murder was open for further investigation.
