Queenswood murder trial postponed to 2021

The 47-year-old is accused of killing Elbé Oosthuizen on the morning of 8 August 2018.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the trial of Pierre de Jonge, who was arrested in 2018 for the murder of Queenswood resident Elbé Oosthuizen (62), has been postponed until 18 January 2021.

De Jonge is accused of killing Oosthuizen in her home on Storey Avenue.

“It is a great frustration, especially with a case like this, which is constantly being postponed, but we believe that justice will be done at the end of the day,” said Lieutenant Colonel Frans Visagie of the Villieria police station.

De Jonge is currently in custody in Middelburg correctional services.

The 47-year-old was arrested by Villieria police the same morning of her murder on 8 August.

Oosthuizen’s housemate caught De Jonge in the house and notified the police.

The accused was found in her room under suspicious circumstances.

“De Jonge was found with a needle in his hands and was arrested on the same day of the murder,” said Visagie.

“He admitted to the housemate that he killed her.”

Pathologists and forensic investigators were immediately called to the scene.

“The scene was secured and the necessary processes were carried out.

“This is one of our great successes that we have achieved,” said Visagie.

The suspect was immediately sent for fingernail scrapings collection and DNA tests.

Oosthuizen got a protection order against De Jonge in the past.

On the day of the arrest, a warrant for his arrest was picked up on the system. He was connected to a house robbery in Middelburg.

De Jonge appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court for the first time on 28 August 2018.

“There is ample evidence,” said Visagie.

“We have footage of his movements on the day of Oosthuizen’s murder.

“The investigation into Oosthuizen’s murder was completed within months. To date, we are satisfied with how the case went,” he concluded.
