SuperSport faces rampant Pirates

The match between Pirates and United have always produced fireworks and it promises to be another mouth-watering encounter.

SuperSport United were hard at work this week, preparing for a big league match against Orlando Pirates.

They will face the Soweto giants at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Pretoria side will need to dust themselves after suffering a 2-1 aggregate defeat against Bloemfontein Celtic in the semi-final of the MTN 8 two weeks ago.

Clashes between Pirates and United have always produced fireworks and it promises to be another mouth-watering encounter.

Kaitano Tembo’s men have had the better of Pirates beating them twice in the Nedbank final over the years.

However in their last meeting, United lost to the “Sea-robbers” during the bio bubble matches and the visitors will be looking to settle the score come Saturday night.

United have played three matches and managed two wins and one loss on the road against Golden Arrows so far.

They are currently fourth on the DStv Premiership table and a win for them will move them to the top spot.

United will also welcome back some of their regular team members who were on national duty including skipper Ronwen Williams.

The skipper played two matches for Bafana Bafana during the 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifier back-to-back games.

The club announced that most of their players were available but there was concerns over Bradley Grobler’s fitness.

The 32-year-old striker pulled out of Bafana squad last week, due to an injury he picked up during the MTN 8 clash against Celtic.

Should he miss the fixture, it would be a big blow for United as he has scored close to 10 goals against Pirates in the PSL.

Pirates on the other hand, will play without their star man Thembinkosi Lorch.

The Bafana international faces up to five weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a procedure on his knee.

The 27-year-old attacker suffered the setback in Pirates’ 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the DStv Premiership last week.
