Rietgat police head visits local schools as part of safety programme
One of the schools has recently fallen victim to burglaries in which taps and dustbins were stolen among other things.
Rietgat station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi, accompanied by police officers, visited various schools as part of a school safety programme as they reopened on Monday.
Although the commander did not visit all the schools in the policing precinct, her officers focused on many of them, especially the most problematic ones, according to spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

Colonel Nkosi paid an unannounced visit to Tlamaganyo primary school in block FF.
“The school had recently fallen victim to burglaries in which taps and dustbins were stolen among other things,” said Maluleka.

Maluleka said the station commander then went to Soshanguve high school where she found that things were running smoothly without any security hiccups.
“Besides checking the safety aspect of teaching and learning, Covid-19 regulations were also enforced as part of the visit. Other members of the station held awareness campaigns on substance abuse, bullying, teenage pregnancy and other social ills faced by learners.”

Nkosi praised police for their dedication and hard work in making sure that schooling resumed in safer and secure environments without any incidents.
She emphasised that the school safety programme was a priority and should be given the attention it deserves.
“The school principals from all the visited schools appreciated the visit and the partnership. They promised to inform the police as quickly as possible when they noticed any red flags among the learners and community alike.”
