Police patrolls cannot keep up with house break-ins
"Criminals often changed the times when they broke into people’s houses, to be the opposite of when they conducted their patrols."
House break-ins in the Akasia policing precinct had once again become a problem, police in the area warned.
“We’ve tried to increase patrols, but these criminals continuously change their patterns,” spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mdluli said.
She explained that the criminals often changed the times when they broke into people’s homes to be the opposite of when they conducted their patrols.
Last month, she also highlighted that an increase in the number of break-ins had been recorded, particularly in The Orchards.

She further said while they were working to arrest more suspects in connection with the crimes, two suspects were arrested following two separate house break-in incidents in Chantelle and The Orchards.
Mdluli also reiterated that they were doing everything they could to track and trace the suspects which perpetuated these crimes against residents in their policing precinct.
In August the Akasia police station was identified as a so-called “trio crime” (carjacking, robberies at residential and non-residential premises) hotspots when police minister Bheki Cele released the latest crime statistics recorded between April and June this year.
The station was ranked 20th among the top 30 police stations where the most trio crimes were reported.
Police also noted an increase in the number of theft of motor vehicles incidents in the Akasia policing precinct has been recorded, they said.
“There has been a significant increase in the number of such cases,” Mdluli said.
She advised motorists to always be vigilant when they parked their vehicles, double-check if all of the car doors were closed before leaving it and always park in a busy area to deter criminals.
