Rietgat police warn about rising rape cases
“We have seen a proliferation of rape cases in our policing precinct.”
Rietgat police called on the community to help in preventing rape, which appeared to be on the rise in the area.
“We have seen a proliferation of rape cases in our policing precinct,” said police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.
In most cases, victims fell prey to perpetrators after asking for lifts either from taverns, filling stations or their homes.

“It is against this backdrop that we are warning parents, community members and women to always be vigilant. The station further encourages parents to avoid sending their daughters to shops in isolated spots either during the day or at night.
“The prevalence of rape cases is a cause for concern. Everyone should come on board to help fight this scourge that affects unsuspecting women, young and old.
“Children who are inappropriately touched are urged to speak out. The station further encourages men to protect women in every corner of society without expecting anything in return.
“Men should always be protective of women.
“Men must teach boys that women are not to be seen as objects but partners, soulmates and friends. They should be treated with the great respect they deserve.
“Women are also encouraged to avoid placing themselves in harms way by asking for lifts from strangers at taverns while also ensuring that they leave from places of entertainment earlier with people they know.
“We believe that through collaboration with the community crime can be reduced.”
