Authors showcase works at Book Market Pretoria
Book lovers and writers converged on Colbyn to trade titles and build local industry networks.
Nearly 30 authors from across Gauteng displayed a wide variety of books at the Book Market Pretoria on Saturday.
The event, organised by Multi-Marketing Publishing and Book Bank SA, was held at the Colbyn Military Bowls Club.
Multi-marketing director Naushad Khan described the gathering as a trifecta event with the book market, Blooming Book Xchange and the sixth annual Multi-Marketing Book Awards ceremony.

Khan said authors normally buy books from one another, but the exchange gave them an opportunity to trade directly.
“The event also hosted the sixth annual multi-marketing awards with lots of categories for the best book, best author and other achievements,” said Khan.
Book Bank SA CEO Douglas Mark Ritson said the book market focuses on supporting local writers.

Ritson said Book Market Pretoria hosted about 70 authors and more than 100 of their titles to help authors generate sales, network, build connections and get to know other bookshops.
“The goal of the book market is putting books in non-traditional book, spaces, such as the bowling club and other places,” he said.
Khan concluded by encouraging authors to attend these events, saying they are less about making sales and more about forging connections and gaining exposure.

The Book Market Pretoria programme featured comedian Sir Bastian, dancer Kayla Bagshaw, and Gauteng-based vocalists and stage poets, including published poet Makgwale Mogaladi.
More events of this nature are planned for next year.
