Trio charged following Centurion high-speed car chase that led to crash

Five people, including two of the suspects, were injured during the chase.

Wierdabrug police have arrested and charged three people involved in a high-speed chase that led to an accident on Wednesday morning.

Five people, including two of the suspects, were injured during the chase.

While being chased by security companies, the suspects crashed into another vehicle on the corner of Old Johannesburg Road and Hendrik Verwoerd Drive.

On Thursday, Wierdabrug police spokesperson Sergeant Divine Nkuna said the three were charged after one of them was discharged from hospital.

“The driver of the vehicle was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle as well as reckless and negligent driving. The two other suspects were charged with possession of the stolen motor vehicle,” she said.

The three will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.

Nkuna said police could not rule out the possibility of linking them to more crimes.

Monitor Net security group spokesperson JP le Roux told Rekord that the pursuit began after a lookout was given to the suspects’ vehicle.

The vehicle was believed to have been involved in house robberies in Eldoraigne.

“We have had several house robberies in the area. It is believed that the vehicle the suspects were using was stolen in Silverton. The suspects operated in and around Eldoraigne, robbing elderly people in their homes,” he said.
