The donation came from the paint department of Ford Motor Company SA.

A local non-profit organisation that has been working non-stop to provide meals to the homeless and needy in Mamelodi received another boost this week.

Thandanani Drop Inn centre received a monetary donation, food parcels and a shelter to cover the area where children eat.

The donation came from the paint department of Ford Motor Company SA.

Thabo Kgotsi, on behalf of the centre extended his gratitude to the donors for their generosity.

“We are grateful for your support in the battle against poverty in our community, and for the carport (steel shelter) the guys build for our children’s eating area,” said Kgotsi.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we lived, it is what difference we have made in the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Thandanani’s main focus is drug awareness and cleaning up the Mamelodi community, taking care of the homeless and drug addicts and reuniting them with their families.

Kgotsi added that the funds will assist Thandanani to sustain its programmes, like the one for the homeless people and the daily feeding scheme.

The centre started operating in 2011 and kept the youth and children of Mamelodi busy and away from drugs and crime. It is a youth driven, passionate and focused group of volunteers striving to find new and innovative ways to uplift their community.

The centre operates from Monday to Saturday and pleaded for more donations to keep it running.
