Flooding expected over the weekend

“Cloudy, cold and wet conditions can be expected in Pretoria over the weekend.”

The South African Weather Service issued a warning for heavy rain and flooding for the weekend.

It said residents should avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams, especially where the water rises above the ankle.

“We recommend moving to higher ground if rising floodwaters threaten one’s safety,” it said.

Cloudy, cold and wet conditions can be expected in Pretoria over the weekend, according to Wayne Venter, a forecaster at the National Forecasting Centre.

“On Saturday, temperature will reach a maximum of 17°C in Pretoria, with a 60% chance of rain.

“On Sunday, Pretoria will experience a maximum of 14°C and an 80% chance of rain throughout the day,” he said.
