Two suspects arrested in Waverley after attempted burglary
"As a result of the joint effort by the CPF as well as Kilnerpark security, the suspects were arrested and Villieria police were called to the scene where they transported the suspects to the station."
Two suspects appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court earlier this week on charges of attempted burglary, possession of an unlicenced firearm, pointing a firearm as well as possession of burglary tools.
Lieutenant-Colonel Frans Visagie of Villieria police station said the men were arrested on Saturday, April 2, after they tried to break into a house in Waverley in the Moot.
“The case has been postponed for further investigation where the suspects will remain in custody until the next appearance,” said Visagie.
The perpetrators tried to break into a house in Walter Avenue, between Spioenkop and Fry streets at around 14:00.

A woman and her two children were at home when she noticed the two suspects in her yard when she looked out the window.
According to Villieria CPF’s sector 1 patrol co-ordinator, Alewyn Landman, the woman’s neighbour sent out a message on a community group to report the suspects.
Kilnerpark security’s shift members were first on the scene.
“According to the neighbour, the woman informed him that the two suspects were trying to break into a house on the same yard at the back door. However, the attempt was unsuccessful.
“She heard a noise at the gate.
“As she looked out the window, a Toyota Corolla sedan was already in the yard,” said Landman.
The suspects apparently pulled the gate off its track where the driver of the vehicle pulled into the yard.
“As the neighbour arrived at the yard, he knocked out the passenger window and that was when the suspects tried to flee.
“An altercation ensued between the neighbour and the suspects. Fortunately the neighbour was not injured in the incident,” he said.
The suspects fled on foot and threw the firearm and housebreaking tools into the road as they tried to flee.
“As a result of the joint effort by the CPF as well as Kilnerpark security, the suspects were arrested and Villieria police were called to the scene after which they transported the suspects to the station.”
The driver of the vehicle unfortunately got away.
“We have the registration number of the getaway car, but any clues leading up to the arrest of the suspect will help. The suspects are not opportunists. They will also not hesitate to shoot. I want to warn the community to be vigilant at all times,” said Landman.
