Fun walk to bring back ubuntu

“Let us not see a person suffer and turn a blind eye.”

It is unlikely for a man to provide sanitary towels to young girls but Jabulani Samuel Mbatha (40) has made it his precedence.

The campaign founder, Mbatha, hosted a fun walk donation drive on his 40th birthday.

The drive was held in Soshanguve block S, Kondelelani secondary school on April 2.

Mbatha said the purpose of the fun walk was to make people aware that they need to bring back “Ubuntu” and help each other because that’s what he is passionate about.

“Customers, stuff and management of Big Save assisted us with 22 pairs of school shoes.

“We donated school shoes as well as sanitary towels to 150 kids.”

Mbatha said there was also a career programme by Oratile Mashigo, who is the founder of the Sandpaper Victors NPC and OM pageant coach.

“We were able to give her 30 sanitary towels to donate to other kids.

“We also donated school shoes to a father who asked them for his son.”

Mbatha said they achieved their goal even when less people attended.

“Over 50 people were able to attend the event because the weather conditions weren’t good.

“But with the help we got from Big Save and other donors we succeeded,” he said.

Mbatha said they do two programmes every year where he donates school shoes, bags and sanitary towels.

“I’ve donated to three schools, one in Mamelodi, Soshanguve and Hammanskraal, since I started five years ago.

“Moretele community radio listeners call in and I give them sanitary towels to last for three months,” he said.

“Anyone who wants to donate or wants a donation is welcome to contact me on 071 449 2436.

“We accept any donations, including bags and schools shoes that are in good condition.

“When the schools reopen we will be donating shoes for those in need because winter has come.”
